Truckee River Fishing Report 8/4/2017
The Truckee is fishing well if you know where to look. Fish have spread out and are in normal summer time water. Flows down in the canyon are around 600 cfs which is great for the fish but makes getting to some pockets a little tricky. I would definitely recommend bringing a wading staff if your not comfortable wading in pushy flows. Rumor has it that flows coming out of Tahoe are going to come up here soon, so be ready for water to come up even higher. I haven't seen any big hatches, but the bugs are around. We have been doing well on big golden stone nymphs, cray fish patterns, caddis pupas, pmd nymphs, and attractor flies like Lance Egans surveyor. Tight line nymphing and streamer fishing are my go to this time of year, and every once in a while we come across some rising fish. Don't be afraid to let those nymph rigs swing out at the end of the drift. Fish will follow those flies into the shallows and hammer them! There are bunch of little fish in the system which is great to see after the drought. I have dates available through august and into september, so give me a call and lets get out!
